Local tips
- 💡Cover arms and legs at the Temple of the Tooth — no shorts, no sleeveless tops. Shoes off at the entrance. Evening puja (6:30 pm) is the most atmospheric time.
- 💡The Kandy cultural dance show is cheesy but kids love the fire walkers — go on your first Kandy evening while the jet lag still works in your favour.
- 💡Skip Pinnawala if you've been to ethical Asian elephant sanctuaries elsewhere (Thailand, Bali) — Pinnawala is a tourist show, not a conservation project. Minneriya safari in the next stop is the real deal.
